For the first time, the Climbing Association of Manitoba (CAM) and Sport Manitoba will be sending athletes to the Canada Winter Games in Québec City between February 26 - March 15, 2027.

 

All eligible athletes are invited to compete to join the High Performance Training (HPT) Program run by CAM, beginning September 2026, toward representing Manitoba at the Winter Games in Québec City. Flights, accommodations, and meals for athletes will be covered by Sport Manitoba. CAM has been awarded a small grant to keep any additional costs associated with the Winter Games to a minimum.    

 

Manitoba is able to send 4 athletes to the Games. Two female and two male athletes will be selected to compete in the event, which is Combined Boulder and Lead Format.  The HPT Program will offer supplemental development between September 2026 and February 2027 in preparation for the Games. All eligible athletes are invited to try out for the HPT Program in early September.  The initial tryout will consist of Boulder only.

 

The HPT Program will accept 12 athletes (6 female and 6 male). The Team for the Winter Games - two female (+1 alternate) and two male (+1 alternate) - will be selected out of this training cohort in late December 2026.

Eligibility

​

Manitoba permanent resident as of September 01, 2026. 
Between the ages of 15 - 20 years old as of December 31, 2027 (Birth Year: 2007-2012)

Boulder - All eligible athletes

   - Location: The Hive Climbing and Fitness // 960 Lorimer Blvd #7, Winnipeg, MB

Fee

 

A fee of $10.00 per athlete to help cover the cost of hosting the tryouts.

Expectations

 

Athletes will be required to compete in the Combined Bouldering and Lead Format for the Canada Winter Games. 

 

Athletes will be required to follow the training program including:

• Training

• Nutrition

• Sports Psychology

• Athletes will be required to check in with Provincial Coach at regular intervals.

 

*** The High Performance Training Program is not designed to replace existing training programs and will instead provide supplemental training geared toward Winter Games readiness.

Other Requirements

 

Athletes representing Manitoba are required to follow CAM’s Code of Conduct and Ethics Policy.

Athletes representing Manitoba are required to follow Sport Manitoba Safe Sport Policy.

Athletes representing Manitoba are required to follow Anti-Doping Policies set by the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES).

Prescription, recreational, and performance enhancing substances:

The Climbing Association of Manitoba will not be conducting any testing, however, athletes may be subject to anti-doping measures at the Canada Winter Games. Athletes are encouraged to discuss any drug use with the head coach prior to attending the Winter Games.

​

All training and programming will be conducted under the direction of the Head Coach, Sayeh Tajali.
